The temporary exhibition “What the City. Perspectives on Our City” will be on display at the historic Zeughaus until 18 April 2027. The Film Museum will also continue its screenings until 18 April 2027.
The Munich City Museum is currently hosting a temporary exhibition on the ground floor of the historic Zeughaus, which has been specially adapted for this purpose. “What the City. Perspectives on Our City’ brings together contemporary topics in urban history from almost all of the museum’s collections in a single exhibition. Across ten chapters, it explores issues including security, poverty, the struggle for equality, tradition and growth in Munich. The exhibition gives a voice to Munich residents themselves, and visitors are engaged through interactive hands-on and media stations. Admission is barrier-free and free of charge. Opening hours: Tue–Sun 11am–7pm, closed on Mondays.
The Film Museum of the Munich City Museum, with its extensive archive of historical films, continues to offer a daily cinema programme (except on Mondays) featuring a changing line-up until 18 April 2027.
The rest of the Munich City Museum is expected to remain closed for comprehensive renovation until 2031.
The Munich City Museum is the largest municipal museum in Germany, not only because of its physical size across the historic building sections dating from various eras, but also thanks to its multifaceted collections. These encompass applied arts, urban culture, photography, prints and paintings, advertising art, puppet theatre and fairground entertainment, music and fashion. The Film Museum and the Von Parish Costume Library are also part of the Munich City Museum’s collections.
The Munich City Museum’s building complex is being prepared for the future, both structurally and conceptually, and is therefore undergoing extensive renovation and refurbishment. The museum has therefore been closed since January 2024 and is expected to remain so until 2031.
